Ultra Electronics is delighted to announce that the heavily contested 2019 UK Nuclear Apprentice of the Year was won by Ultra Electronics Energy’s Apprentice Kyle Davis. He also won the Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year category, which was sponsored by The National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) at the awards ceremony on 21 March 2019.
Kyle, 20 from Dorset, recently completed his 4-year Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Manufacturing (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and now works in Electronics Assembly within our Wimborne, Dorset facility. During his time so far at Ultra, Kyle has taken part in the Ultra Electronics Energy academic engagement programme as a mentor for work experience students and new apprentices, he has participated in careers events around the local area, and he has regularly presented at schools to inspire students to get involved with engineering.
The awards were organised by NSAN and Cogent Skills. The event brought the nuclear industry together to celebrate the success and high achievement of individuals nominated for awards in Apprentice, Graduate, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), Subject Matter Expert and Equality, Inclusion and Diversity disciplines. Apprenticeships are seen as one of the key avenues for replenishing and building skills for the nuclear sector.
On the night, NSAN described Kyle as “a truly exceptional individual who has demonstrated that they have the skills to succeed and has the drive and enthusiasm to be an inspiration to existing and new apprentices”.
Nick Gaines, Ultra Electronics Energy President, commented:
“We are exceptionally proud of Kyle’s achievements and of the continued success of our Ultra Electronics Energy Apprentice Programme. Kyle’s hard work and determination has been recognised and appreciated, not only by his peers but also by our industry and I am sure this will continue throughout his career. Well done and congratulations to Kyle and to the whole team who have supported him so far.”
Simon Pryce, Ultra Electronics CEO, commented:
“This is great news for Ultra and a testament to the talented and committed people we have across the Group who work closely with our customers to solve challenging engineering problems every day. Ultra is very proud to be continuing to invest in the skills and development of the next generation of engineering professionals and congratulates Kyle on his success.”
